All you need to know
When you think about an SUV the image comes into your mind is like Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endevour and if you are an Indian then it’s impossible you didn’t think about the Muscular Scorpio and Mighty Safari. But in 2013 there is a new segment of arise with the launch of Ford Ecosport. Sub 4-meter SUV. A type of Small SUV segment. “SUV” and “Small”- Don’t go hand in hand. But it was a great success. And after that, there was a bunch of launches in that segment. Including the India specific Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and it is the segment leader since the launch ( not the undisputed though). It is a very popular segment. So everyone wants a pie. The latest company wants to join the tribe is the Toyota Kirloskar Motors with the Toyota Raize, a new Sub-4-meter SUV. The new Toyota Raize SUV is based on the Daihatsu Rocky compact SUV that made its debut last week at the Tokyo Motor Show 2019. Not much information is available on the Raize but expected to get an 8-inch touchscreen unit, 17 inches alloys, rear AC vents, steering mounted audio and voice controls and whatnot. Speaking about dimensions it’s not revealed yet but I expect it to be 3,995mm in length, 1,695mm in height, 1,620mm in width, and has a wheelbase of 2,525mm as these are the dimensions of the SUV it is based on. As per the powertrain option goes Toyota will sell the Raize SUV with a 4WD variant too along with front-wheel drive versions for the lower trims. The new Raize gets a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 98hp at 6,000rpm and 140.2Nm of torque at 2,400-4,000rpm. Gearbox choices would include a CVT initially with a six-speed manual to be added later.
